Alex Mowatt’s contract situation is likely to come under the microscope at West Bromwich Albion in the near future.

Mowatt is one of the key players for the Baggies, but the side have underperformed this season, finding themselves firmly in relegation danger.

Albion are now four points above the drop zone after their victories against Hull City and Bristol City before the international break.

Mowatt is a leader for West Brom, and his future will be something that they need to sort in the coming months.

What is Mowatt’s contract situation at West Brom?

Mowatt signed a two-year contract extension with West Brom in August 2025.

That is set to keep him at The Hawthorns until 2027, at the earliest, if he is not sold in the summer.

He insisted that he was very happy to commit his future to Albion when he signed fresh terms.

Speaking to the club’s official media channel, he said: “I’m buzzing to sign a new deal at this great club, it’s a really exciting time for us at the moment.

“I’m happy and enjoying my football, we’ve had a good start to the season, and hopefully it can continue.”

However, given that he only has a year left on his deal when the summer comes around, it may be a priority for the club shortly.

How has Mowatt performed this season?

Like many Albion players, the Englishman has struggled this season.

Mowatt has made 34 appearances in the league, with one goal and four assists, per Sofascore.

He is averaging a total of 0.9 shots, with 0.2 on target and a 3 per cent goal conversion ratio, scoring at a rate of one every 2,331 minutes.

The 31-year-old has created 5.13 expected assists, averages 1.3 key passes per game, and completes 88 per cent of his passes this season.

Defensively, he recovers 3.8 balls, makes 0.9 tackles, completes 0.7 interceptions and makes 0.7 clearances per game.

In terms of duels, he has won 61 per cent of the ground, but only succeeds in 42 per cent of aerial battles that he has contested.

Overall, his numbers need to be better, if the Baggies are to be challenging for a promotion play-off spot, rather than in relegation danger.

If he is to clinch a new deal next season, then he needs to show that he can still perform at his previous levels.

If he cannot do that, Shilen Patel and Co may have a decision on their hands when it comes to a possible extension.
