Aune Heggebo’s first season findings prove West Brom in for delightful second chapter

Aune Heggebo has had a turbulent first season at West Bromwich Albion, but the striker has provided more good than bad for the Baggies.

Like many other Albion stars this season, Heggebo has had rough patches where he’s struggled for form.

However, the number nine has shown that he can come back from his worst moments to be a true Championship goalscorer.

Many questions were asked over the 24-year-old when he first joined the Black Country Club from SK Brann in the summer, but he’s proved to be a threat more times than not.

Heggebo may only get better for West Brom from here on out, and his statistics from this season prove why.

Aune Heggebo is only going in one direction at West Brom

Initially, West Brom were frustrated with Heggebo, who was finding himself with golden opportunities in front of goal, but was unable to convert most of the time.

The Norwegian then hit his best bit of form from November until December, as highlighted by Sofascore, which helped the Baggies pick up some crucial points.

The Baggies seen the forward go a whopping 17 games without a goal during the awful period under Eric Ramsay and Ryan Mason.

However, his goal in the 3-0 win over Hull City marked a possible comeback for the 24-year-old with just seven games left to go.

Heggebo has an average rating of 6.61 for the season, and is only just underperforming his expected goals by 0.92.

The former Brann star has a 76 per cent dribble success rate and wins 3.25 aerial duels per game, which shows his capabilities as a modern-day centre-forward.

Heggebo averages 2.12 shots per 90 minutes, and his overall tally of 12 goal involvements for the season only feels like it will be better next campaign, with him soon having a full season under his belt.

How much have West Brom paid per Heggebo goal?

The Baggies spent around £4.8million on Heggebo, which may have looked like a terrible expenditure at first.

However, with him still only 24, and expected to remain at The Hawthorns until 2030, time is on the side of both the striker and the Baggies for him to improve.

Given that Albion splashed out £4.8m on the striker in total, his goal return of 10 so far means that he’s cost the club £480,000 for every time he’s found the back of the net.

But when you consider that West Brom should hopefully see many more from the Norwegian, that figure will continue to plummet.

It’s going to be exciting to see what Heggebo can do next year.
