Alfie Maughan knocking on James Morrison’s door as West Brom starlet shines in key area
Alfie Maughan may not be far from making his senior debut at West Bromwich Albion.
The Baggies looked destined for relegation only a few weeks ago, but James Morrison has worked wonders to give them some breathing space ahead of the final seven games of the season.
West Brom sit four points clear of the drop zone, having won their last two fixtures, with form certainly favouring them over their relegation rivals.
Should Albion secure safety with some games to spare, Morrison will have room to experiment to some extent, and it could afford the opportunity for Maughan to make his debut.

Alfie Maughan demonstrates rare attribute for West Brom Under-21s
Typically, young full-backs are the last of a squad to get promoted, due to the intense demands often set on them in senior football.
However, if Maughan can maintain his recent form for the Baggies, we could see him sooner rather than later.
| Premier League 2 | Maughan |
| Appearances | 9 |
| Assists | 3 |
| Chances created per 90 | 2.20 |
| Aierial duel win rate | 100% |
| Tackles | 16 |
The 17-year-old has been competent defensively in the Premier League 2, but his standout attribute is actually his ability to create from wide areas.
Maughan has created 18 chances so far this season, with four of them having been deemed as big chances, which places him among the top 6.5 per cent of defenders for that metric.
On top of that, the teen has completed 19 crosses in just 738 minutes of league action this season, showcasing his ability to deliver a good ball into the area.
West Brom must address Maughan contract situation
Come the end of the season, Maughan will have one year left on his deal at The Hawthorns, having signed a two-year contract in 2025.
That still gives the Baggies some leeway to monitor his development, but at his current rate, they may opt to tie him down for longer.
Depending on the league that Albion are in next season, Maughan may have a part to play, and that will only generate more interest in him as the campaign goes on.
