Roy Keane and Gary Neville disagree over West Brom and Wrexham prediction

Roy Keane says West Bromwich Albion are “fighting for their lives” but it won’t be enough to beat Wrexham on Friday.

The 2025-26 season has been one to forget for West Brom fans, after sacking 34-year-old head coaches Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay and flirting with relegation.

Club legend and caretaker manager James Morrison has steadied the Baggies ship in recent weeks, picking up two wins and two draws from their last four Championship matches.

That stretch has included victories over play-off hopefuls Hull City and away at mid-table Bristol City, as West Brom won on the road for the first time since October in the league.

Next up, 20th-placed West Brom host seventh-positioned Wrexham at The Hawthorns, in a game where footballing greats Keane, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, and Ian Wright have waded into the prediction picture.

Roy Keane and Ian Wright back Wrexham to beat West Brom

Heading into this crunch clash, which could have big ramifications near the top and bottom of the table, Wrexham have won three of their last five.

West Brom have picked up eight points in that period, with Morrison’s team currently four points above the relegation zone.

And on the latest episode of Stick to Football, the heavyweight pundits were asked to predict this scoreline as part of their Super 6 segment.

Former Manchester United defender Neville suggested a 1-1 draw, but Liverpool icon Carragher added, “Yeah, but West Brom have changed the manager, haven’t they?”

After settling on that result, ex-Red Devils star Keane said: “But Wrexham are going for promotion. West Brom are fighting for their lives but Wrexham are going for the play-offs. Come on, Wrexham.”

Finally, former Arsenal striker Wright piped up and said: “This is everything that Wrexham need. 2-1, come on Wrexham.”

A win for West Brom would be a huge boost in their bid to beat the drop, while a defeat for Wrexham could ensure they miss out on a top-six finish.

West Brom on a high, but tough fixtures await

Question marks were raised over West Brom’s decision to give Morrison the reins until the end of the season due to his limited coaching experience.

The 39-year-old is in his third caretaker stint at the Midlands club but already this is his longest stint in the dugout.

West Brom haven’t been in the English third-tier since 1991 but the way they are going under Morrison, they may not need to worry about dropping into League One.

West Brom look like a completely different team heading into the Wrexham game from the ones that were under Ramsay and the tail end of Mason’s tenure.

They currently look like a side who could surge up the table in the final weeks of the campaign, but they still have some tough fixtures to come.

In addition to Wrexham, they face fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers, promotion-hopefuls Millwall and Ipswich Town, in addition to out-of-form Preston North End and already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday.

There is still time for it all to fall apart, or to inch clear of the bottom three as an intriguing run-in beckons.
