West Brom: Josh Griffiths must be chosen one as James Morrison makes goalkeeper decision for Wrexham
West Bromwich Albion‘s goalkeeping issues have been present all season, and now James Morrison has decided who he’ll play out of Josh Griffiths and Max O’Leary against Wrexham.
Albion face Play-off hunting Wrexham on Good Friday, with The Hawthorns primed to be ready for the occasion, regardless of who Morrison plays in goal.
However, Baggies fans will still keep a close eye on the lineup ahead of kick-off, as a decision to play Morrison or O’Leary will be made.
O’Leary is now fully fit for the Black Country Club and will have firmly put himself in the thoughts of the West Brom boss for the Easter clash.
Griffiths started last time out against Bristol City and should be given the nod, but Morrison has reportedly made up his mind.

James Morrison says he’s decided on who he’ll play vs Wrexham
Griffiths has had his criticism this season, but a clean sheet in a tough away game against Bristol City should surely earn him the starting spot this Friday.
O’Leary was forced to leave the pitch after suffering a knock in the 3-0 victory over Hull City, and even then, Griffiths stepped up and helped see the game out for the Baggies.
| Area of game | Stats |
| Minutes | 90 |
| Saves | 2 |
| Goals prevented | 0.09 |
| Recoveries | 6 |
| FotMob rating | 7.7 |
Albion’s youth graduate grabbed a 7.7 match rating against the Robins last time out, and though he had few shots to face, he commanded his area well.
Speaking ahead of the game against Phil Parkinson’s side, Morrison admitted that he has already decided on who will play the Welsh side, as highlighted by Steve Hermon on X.
Experience may be wanted, but the truth is that Griffiths has been able to repay the faith shown in him by Morrison.
What do the stats say about Josh Griffiths and Max O’Leary?
Some would argue that O’Leary has been more impressive since he arrived from Bristol City this winter, but the stats suggest otherwise in comparison to Griffiths.
Griffiths has a higher clean sheet tally than O’Leary, albeit he has played in more games, but the latter does have a great save ration by one per cent.
| Player | Matches played | Clean sheets | Saves per 90 | Saved penalties | Shots faced per game | Save percentage |
| Josh Griffiths | 23 | 5 | 2.29 | (1/1) | 3.73 | 61% |
| Max O’Leary | 15 | 4 | 1.76 | (0/0) | 2.85 | 62% |
However, the shots on face and games played comparison proves that if O’Leary were to have played more this season, his save percentage would most likely be less than 62 per cent.
Griffiths does make 2.29 saves per game, a 0.53 improvement on his competition, and Baggies fans know he can come up with big moments.
It’s ultimately in Morrison’s hands, but it just feels like Griffiths is the more sensible option to go for, given the goods that he can deliver.
