West Bromwich Albion‘s 2-2 Championship draw with Wrexham left Robert Madley with plenty of decisions to make on Friday.

The Baggies took the lead through a George Dobson own goal, and a penalty from Josh Maja doubled the advantage on 3 April.

The Hawthorns side came away with just a point, though, as they could not back a second-half fightback from the playoff chasers.

Keith Hackett believes that the decision to award the penalty for Issa Kabore dragging Jayson Molumby down in the box was the right one, and referees should follow the example set by Madley.

West Brom sit four points above the relegation zone after the result, but the fact that they got a first penalty in 13 months will provide some solace for supporters.

West Brom have regularly been on the receiving end of questionable decisions this season, but Hackett was pleased to see them finally be on the right side of the officials this time around.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, he said: “The player has his arms wrapped around the forward.

“Referees have to demonstrate courage and award penalty kicks in these situations.

“His colleagues have to do the same.”

The Baggies need to push on and keep picking up points in the final six games of the campaign.

In an ideal world, they would have won and taken all three points, but the Welsh side are very good and are sixth in the division for a reason.

It was an encouraging display given the strength of the opposition, especially in the first half, but now James Morrison needs to work on the defending and ensure that his side can hold onto a lead next time, if required.

None of their relegation rivals gained ground on them, so it was a good result in the end, and will surely only keep the momentum up ahead of the crucial clash with Blackburn Rovers next time out.

If Albion can win the Ewood Park showdown, it will put them in a very good position to avoid the drop, and put the pressure firmly on the hosts, Leicester and Portsmouth.
