West Brom set for anxious relegation wait as supercomputer predicts result vs Millwall

West Bromwich Albion are back in action on Friday, as they welcome promotion-chasers Millwall to The Hawthorns.

The Baggies picked up two points over Easter Weekend, with draws against Wrexham and Blackburn.

At the same time, Leicester and Oxford failed to gain any ground on the Baggies, with both sides also picking up two points in the same period.

The gap to the relegation zone remains at four points, leaving Albion well-placed to go on and secure their spot in the division should they continue picking up points under James Morrison.

With Morrison’s side first in action on Friday, they need a result to avoid handing their rivals a chance to catch up over the subsequent days.

West Brom fans will feel anxious as Millwall labelled favourites

Having lost 3-0 away at Millwall earlier this season, the Baggies are looking to bounce back against Alex Neil’s side, who currently sit fourth in the Championship standings.

Given the respective placing of the two sides, it is no surprise that the Lions are named as favourites, though a loss would set up an anxious weekend for those associated with West Brom.

How Opta’s supercomputer predicts West Brom vs Millwall to pan out

With the Opta supercomputer handing Millwall the title as favourites, with a 42.6 per cent chance of taking all three points, Albion’s rivals may just have the chance to claw back ground in the relegation battle.

Luckily for fans of the Black Country outfit, they won’t have to wait too long, with both Leicester and Oxford in action on Saturday afternoon – facing Swansea City and Watford at home respectively.

Though the fact that the pair have the chance to react to Albion’s result could be a key mental difference, after a period of all three sides taking to the pitch at the same time.

West Brom need to keep pace under James Morrison

Since he took over at the end of February, Morrison has done a tremendous job of galvanising a club that seemed destined for relegation under Eric Ramsay.

Following a 2-1 loss to Oxford in his first match, the former Baggies midfielder has gone on a sensational six-match unbeaten run in the league – picking up big wins against Hull and Bristol City in the process.

This has allowed West Brom to forge a four-point gap to the drop zone as things stand.

West Brom stat

While all of the sides at the bottom have failed to capitalise on dropped points, the sides below the Baggies are running out of time to respond.

While Millwall will provide a stern test, the results picked up against other promotion contenders in Southampton and Hull show that Morrison’s side are more than ready for the clash.

Should they continue at their current pace, survival will be a possibility, with both Leicester and Oxford behind running out of time to reduce the gap.
