West Bromwich Albion have been given a transfer dilemma by Danny Imray.

The 22-year-old right back didn’t hit the ground running at The Hawthorns but has now started the last seven Championship matches under James Morrison.

Having taken on a new lease of life since the club legend’s appointment, he once again played the full 90 minutes during the 0-0 draw with Millwall on Friday night.

The result moved Albion five points clear of the relegation zone, before they were dragged back into trouble after Portsmouth and Oxford United’s crucial victories.

Imray will clearly be crucial in West Brom’s Championship survival bid, but with his stay in the Midlands up shortly, efforts must be made to tie him down for the long term.

How did Danny Imray play vs Millwall?

Imray has come on leaps and bounds since arriving at Albion, and his standout performances reached a new high as he played his part in the shutout against Millwall.

Surprisingly, the defender has not yet made his first-team debut for parent club Crystal Palace, whom he joined in 2021, but Premier League football is unlikely to be too far away.

That is because he impressed during his loan stint for Bromley last season before catching the eye for Blackpool in League One during the first half of this campaign.

West Brom supporters have been won over by his dynamic performances and overlapping from right-back, and this was on show again at The Hawthorns last time out.

According to Sofascore, Imray attempted four crosses and completed 73 per cent of his passes. He also took 73 touches and registered 21 carries over a distance of 262m.

Defensively, he won six of his 10 ground duels, helping West Brom shut out the promotion hopefuls and underlining his newfound importance in this brave new era.

What are West Brom’s chances of signing Imray?

Morrison will be desperate to sign Imray permanently, but Albion’s chances don’t look good.

Palace will almost certainly have taken note of the loanee’s standout displays in the Championship and could therefore look to keep him at Selhurst Park next season.

Imray has consistently stepped up to the plate for West Brom, and if they do stay up this season, they will owe a great deal to the marauding right-back.

It is a crying shame that he is set to depart, albeit on glowing terms.
