West Brom PSR charge: How does Championship relegation battle look with points deduction on cards?
West Bromwich Albion’s Championship fate could be altered after being charged with a breach of PSR rules and facing the possibility of a points deduction
The Baggies have already seen how decisive a decision such as a points deduction can be this season, as their own survival odds were boosted by one already handed out.
Leicester City’s six-point deduction has seen them drop into the bottom three, facing the reality of League One football.
However, at The Hawthorns, fears may now be that the B71 outfit face similar punishment after an alleged breach in the 2024-25 season.
And ahead of West Brom’s final Championship games this season, that could end up changing the table.

How would the Championship table look with a West Brom points deduction?
West Brom are currently just two points above the relegation zone, so being hit with any points deduction would have huge ramifications for this season.
With the B71 outfits breach coming from last campaign and EFL guidelines stating sanctions must arrive the following season, any punishment would likely be handed out this season.
| Championship points deductions this season | Total |
| Sheffield Wednesday | 15 points |
| Leicester City | 6 points |
West Brom’s infringement has been described as “minor”, so they will likely not face the same level of scrutiny as Leicester City.
But any deduction of two points or more would place the Baggies into the relegation zone on goal difference.

The Midlands club may ultimately escape a deduction with a transfer ban or fine among the other list of punishments possible.
West Brom are also hoping to push the sanction onto next season, rather than receive their penalty this campaign.
With Portsmouth just one point below, it’s very likely that they would drop below the Fratton Park outfit, who worryingly, also still have a game in hand on those around them.
Are there any precedents for West Brom’s PSR breach?
According to John Percy, West Brom have breached PSR’s allowable losses over three years by £16.6million.
Interestingly, this is the exact total Everton breached their PSR limits by when they were charged back in 2024.
On that occasion, the Toffees were handed a two-point deduction, although that decision did take into account the Merseyside club had already received a six-point penalty for a separate incident.
Overall, if the rules and punishments are to remain consistent, a minimum of two points may be expected if a deduction is deemed the correct punishment.
It would come at a particularly poor time, with the mood at the Hawthorns starting to improve under James Morrison in recent weeks.
