Preston keeper Daniel Iverson leaves Andy Johnson baffled in ‘crazy’ error vs West Brom

Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iverson hardly covered himself in glory as West Bromwich Albion secured victory at Deepdale.

The Baggies are on a roll and continued their unbeaten streak by making it eight without loss on Saturday.

A 2-0 win away to the Lilywhites came courtesy of strikes from Josh Maja and Daryl Dike in each half in Lancashire.

There was so much to appreciate about the away showing from James Morrison’s side, but things were made easier by the home side at times.

Iverson so nearly gifted West Brom a third goal on the day that could have sparked anger inside the Preston dressing room.

Daniel Iverson nearly causes bizarre own goal for Preston

Albion may have had slightly less possession and fewer shots on the day, but were good value for all three points on the road.

Morrison has struck a real team spirit, and it shows as his side continues to grind out massive results in the relegation battle.

That is always helped by a slice of luck, and the Baggies nearly got exactly that as Lewis Gibson got lucky on 48 minutes at Deepdale.

His goalkeeper, Iverson, looked to play out from the back with a quick goal kick, but his pass cannoned off the English defender and narrowly wide of the post.

The away fans behind the goal gasped, and Andy Johnson was left stunned in the commentary box for WBA TV.

He said: “What is this keeper doing? The defender didn’t pass it backwards, it’s just hit him and gone out for a corner. Crazy, crazy play from Preston.

“If we go and score from this, there will be words after the match, I’m sure.”

The Baggies missed out on that slice of luck, but it didn’t stop West Brom from securing the win against Preston in the sunshine.

West Brom don’t need luck right now

The Lilywhites’ keeper may have done his best to hand the away side a two-goal lead, but he really didn’t need to.

There is so much to appreciate about this Albion side right now, and they worked for everything they got away at Deepdale.

The likes of Isaac Price and Jayson Molumby were tireless down the flank, while Callum Styles and Danny Imray were constant threats behind them.

That’s not to forget the likes of George Campbell and Max O’Leary, who helped to keep yet another clean sheet away from B71.

Although it would have been nice to be handed a goal by Iverson, the Baggies have proven they are willing to put in the work to win games, rather than simply get lucky.
