West Brom: Jayson Molumby deserves his flowers despite awkward James Morrison demand
West Bromwich Albion star Jayson Molumby has gone under the radar in recent performances, while playing in an awkward position for James Morrison.
The Baggies have secured their Championship status after all the drama this season has brought, including a late and feared points deduction from the EFL.
A draw over Ipswich Town on Saturday confirmed the achievement, and it is all thanks to Morrison and the players for finding the fight and belief in recent weeks.
Some would argue that Molumby was one of many reasons as why the Albion struggled for so long in large parts of the season.
However, Morrison has been asking Molumby to play out wide, and the Irishman hasn’t kicked up a fuss, proving his quality in matches at the same time.

Jayson Molumby deserves more credit for solid displays
West Brom may have feared losing Molumby, among other players, if they were relegated to League One, but with their Championship status intact, they can build on momentum.
Instead, the Baggies are now in a solid position to keep the midfielder, whose contract at The Hawthorns runs until 2028.
| Game | Result | FotMob rating |
| WBA vs Ipswich | 0-0 Draw | 6.9 |
| WBA vs Watford | 3-0 Win | 7.1 |
| Preston vs WBA | 2-0 Win | 7.5 |
As seen in the table above, Molumby has averaged around a seven FotMob rating in his last three games, all of which have come from being right midfield.
His overall rating for the season now stands at 6.90, narrowly in front of Ousmane Diakite’s score of 6.80, and just behind Alex Mowatt’s at 6.94.
These games haven’t seen him completely stick out wide, of course, as he has been seen drifting centrally, but for the most part, he is doing a great job when on the right.

He completed 100 per cent of his crosses against Ipswich, and chipped in at the back, making five recoveries and completing two ground duels.
Will Molumby be sold this summer?
West Brom’s latest breach of PSR rules puts more strain on Shilen Patel to get things balanced behind the scenes, with more sales needed this summer.
Molumby is a solid Championship player with room for improvement, and would most likely go for a multi-million-pound fee.
However, it would be a surprise to see another Championship club come in for the 26-year-old, who really hasn’t been at his best all campaign.
It’ll be another window of change, and some Baggies fans may have split views on whether they would cash in on Molumby or not for the right offer, if any at all are sent West Brom’s way.
