George Campbell bids update shared as ‘silly money’ needed for West Brom exit

West Bromwich Albion are not looking to sell George Campbell.

The American defender has been one of the Baggies’ standout players in a miserable season since signing last summer.

Celtic have been linked with a move for The Hawthorns ace, but Albion have no interest in losing the 24-year-old.

According to West Brom insider EyaWeGew via X, there have been no official bids for the defender, and the club do not want to sell.

Given West Brom’s financial issues, that stance could be tested in the summer, though.

How much would it take for Campbell to leave West Brom?

West Brom could sell Campbell, if an offer that was regarded as “silly money” came through the door, the insider claimed.

Taking to X on 4 May, he said: “Celtic interest in Campbell doesn’t surprise me, he’s been absolutely top class.

“No bids as it stands though, and from our end he’s not for sale.

“We want to build around him, it would take silly money to change that.”

He later shared what kind of price it would take to prise him away from the Black Country outfit, saying: “I was just told they do not want to sell him, and it would take silly money.

“Maybe £8/10m around that and I can’t see anyone offering it.”

Why West Brom may have a dilemma on their hands

The Baggies may well be in a bind this summer when it comes to Campbell’s future, and it may be a hard decision on the cards in the West Midlands.

Of course, keeping him is the ideal option, as he has been brilliant at the back, as well as scoring some crucial goals in their survival battle, that helped them stay in the second tier.

However, selling him, if a decent offer comes in, may prove to be tempting, considering the financial mess that they have endured recently, that Shilen Patel and Co have had to navigate extremely carefully.

A fee of £10million would allow James Morrison to have significant influence on shaping his squad for the new season, which he may not get otherwise.

However, the Baggies are not in the same position that they were last summer, they should have enough flexibilty to spend anyway when the market reopens.

Former club president Andrew Nestor revealed pre-Christmas that the B71 club were not expected to face spending restrictions by the time that the 2026/27 season comes around.

Therefore, there is surely no pressure to sell, and the Baggies can hold their nerve if any offers come in for their star man, and he should be part of the squad for the next campaign.
