James Morrison has opted to use Isaac Price on the wing for West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies’ season is over, and despite plenty of scares, they were able to maintain their spot in the Championship for another campaign.

Morrison worked wonders to make that happen, even in the event of a points deduction, while several players stepped up to the plate when it truly mattered.

Price was by far the most influential player at The Hawthorns, with eight goals and three assists in the Championship.

However, ahead of West Brom’s pre-season, Morrison is still left with a dilemma to solve over his best position.

Where is Isaac Price’s best position?

Versatility is always a good attribute to have, but it can often also be the worst, depending on the scenario.

With Mikey Johnston having suffered a season-ending injury, Price had been forced to take over his role on the wing, having previously occupied a central role.

When playing in the middle, Price managed five goals and three assists in 24 appearances, with an average of 0.33 goal involvements per game.

But when utilised on the wings, Price managed just three goals and one assist in 17 appearances, with an average of 0.24 goal involvements per game.

It isn’t a major discrepancy, but it is certainly one worth noting for Morrison when he looks to make plans ahead of the new campaign.

Price dilemma exposes West Brom priority

It’s clear that Price is more useful centrally, but with Johnston injured, West Brom are lacking options in that area of the pitch.

As of now, Johnston’s future at West Brom is unclear, but regardless of whether he stays or goes, the Baggies need to recruit in that area of the pitch.

Creativity from the wide areas has been lacking since the Irishman suffered an injury, and it will remain that way if not addressed in the summer transfer window.

West Brom will be looking to avoid a repeat of the nightmare campaign they have just endured, and that will be one of the first steps to doing so.
