Harry French contract situation examined after latest West Brom Under-18 exploits

Harry French is a name that West Bromwich Albion supporters will be hearing a lot more in the future.

The 17-year-old has notched 15 goals and five assists in 21 league matches for The Hawthorns side’s Under-18s this season.

His hot streak continued against Tottenham Under-18s on 12 May, with the two Baggies goals in a 5-2 defeat.

French found the bottom corner from Danyal Iqbal’s pass to put his side in the lead, and he poached another to make it 3-2, before Spurs went on to take complete control.

West Brom will be very excited by his development this campaign, and if he continues, he will become a household name in no time.

What is French’s contract situation at West Brom?

French signed a two-year professional contract with West Brom in April 2026, which commits his immediate future to the B71 club.

That deal is set to expire in the summer of 2028, giving the Baggies plenty of time to assess his potential and whether they believe that he can make it in the senior game.

Judging by his showings at Under-18 level, he has what it takes to step up, but whether that ends up being the reality is a different story.

How did French react to his new contract?

French is clearly loving life at West Brom, as he took to Instagram to share his pride after he signed the new deal.

Taking to the platform on 28 April, he said: “Proud to have signed my first professional contract with West Brom.

“From nothing to something, grateful for every step of the way and a lot more to come.”

He is obviously just excited to continue his progress with the club that put their faith in him after having him on trial at the age of 15 and then joined the Under-16 ranks.

What are the next steps for French?

The next steps for French is probably a promotion to the Under-21s to see how he handles that level.

If he succeeds and adapts well to that, and scores at the same ratio, it may well be a loan switch that is his next move, to gain senior experience in either the National League, League Two or League One.

That would prime him for a role in the first-team setup in the Black Country, once he has enough experience of the professional game and has proven that he won’t crumble under the pressure.
