West Brom to regret Kevin Mfuamba exit after Under-21 exploits
West Bromwich Albion have allowed talented young midfielder Kevin Mfuamba to leave.
The Baggies released their retained list on 15 May, with notable names such as Daryl Dike and Jed Wallace leaving The Hawthorns.
One name that supporters may not recognise is Mfuamba, but they may well know who he is in a couple of years.
The 20-year-old was making waves in the youth academy and had even trained with the first team in 2023, but fresh terms were not agreed upon, and he is walking away from the club he has played for since he was eight years old.
West Brom fans may look back on the decision with regret, if he reaches a decent level away from the Black Country.

How did Mfuamba perform for West Brom Under-21s?
Mfuamba signed a two-year scholarship with West Brom in 2022, and signed a first professional contract in August 2023.
However, he has now parted ways with the Baggies, which is a surprise given his impressive 2025-26 season.
The England Under-17 international recorded an 81.5% pass accuracy, completing 3.72 accurate long balls per 90 minutes and creating 1.49 chances, according to data from Fotmob.
| Mfuamba’s stats for West Brom U21 | Premier League 2 |
| Pass accuracy | 81.5% |
| Accurate long passes per 90 | 3.72 |
| Chances created per 90 | 1.49 |
| Tackles per 90 | 2.05 |
| Interceptions per 90 | 1.12 |
| Recoveries per 90 | 6.79 |
Defensively, he was even more effective, with 2.05 tackles per 90, 1.12 interceptions per 90 and 6.79 recoveries per 90.
In terms of duels, he won 51.8 per cent on the ground and 64.3% of his battles in the air, which are solid figures.
Why West Brom may regret Mfuamba decision
The Baggies could have done with more depth in the engine room, as they will surely be in the market for a centre midfielder in the summer.
Mfuamba could have been an alternative option or reduced the number of midfielders needed, which would have saved Shilen Patel and Co money that could have been used to bolster other areas of James Morrison‘s side.
| West Brom’s midfield options | League appearances in central midfield in 2025-26 |
| Alex Mowatt | 39 |
| Jayson Molumby | 34 (38 overall) |
| Ousmane Diakite | 36 |
| Callum Styles | 4 (45 overall) |
| Krystian Bielik | 2 (17 overall) |
They currently have Alex Mowatt, Jayson Molumby and Ousmane Diakite who can play in the position, while Callum Styles and Krystian Bielik can also deputise there if needed.
They are not the most encouraging options, and some fresh blood from the academy could have been exactly what the group needed, but unfortunately, Mfuamba will not be given the chance to make his senior debut.
