West Brom: Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba’s contract examined ahead of Aston Villa return

West Bromwich Albion signed Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba on a short-term loan in January.

The attacking midfielder returned to the Black Country in the winter with a view to helping avoid relegation from the Championship.

He had previously departed the Baggies’ academy to join Aston Villa, where he has quickly become one of their brightest prospects.

That hasn’t hampered his love for the B71 outfit as he made the decision to depart the Villans for his old side ahead of a different loan move elsewhere.

Things didn’t really work out for Jimoh-Aloba at West Brom, as we now assess his current deal at Villa Park ahead of the summer.

What is Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba’s contract situation at Aston Villa?

It was a strange move from Albion to move for two young loanees from Premier League clubs, with Hindolo Mustapha also coming in from Crystal Palace.

Neither set the world alight under James Morrison, but it was certainly the Villa talent who made more of an impact.

Their lack of Championship minutes was largely due to the fierce nature of the relegation battle and the fear of a drop into League One.

That has seen Jimoh-Aloba return to B6, having played just 350 senior minutes while on loan, but they still have time to help plan his best route to develop.

He signed a new contract in claret and blue in October 2024 that has been declared as a “long-term deal”, with no end date currently known.

As part of that, he reportedly earns £1,000 per week and a yearly salary of £52,000, which carried into his spell with the Baggies.

Jimoh-Aloba wasn’t treated too well at West Brom, but there will be questions over whether he could return in the summer.

Could Jimoh-Aloba return to West Brom?

It is going to be an interesting summer in the Black Country as Morrison looks to put his own stamp on the squad.

Daryl Dike and Jed Wallace have already moved on, leaving gaps in the squad that certainly need to be filled.

Utilising the loan market could prove to be wise, and having a full season from Jimoh-Aloba may be increasingly useful.

As he becomes more accustomed to senior football in the Championship, he is only going to get better as an attacking option.

If he is wanted back at The Hawthorns, a deal will hinge on whether Aston Villa are willing to take the risk after Jimoh-Aloba’s quiet first spell in B71.
