West Brom to pay the price as Jayson Molumby at risk of burnout after Ireland announcement
West Bromwich Albion could be set to pay the price after as Jayson Molumby’s workload is only building up with Republic of Ireland.
The midfielder proved crucial under James Morrison, as the Baggies secured their spot in the Championship.
Joining the club from Brighton in 2021, Molumby has continued to grow throughout his time in the Black Country.
And now, with Albion looking to rebuild over the summer, the Irishman is set to continue playing a pivotal role.
However, the latest announcement from his national team could impact West Brom’s summer planning.

Jayson Molumby called up for Ireland friendlies
A senior Ireland international for over five years, Molumby is a regular at the heart of midfield on the international stage.
Ireland would miss out on World Cup qualification ahead of the summer, as they fell to a shootout defeat against the Czech Republic – there are two more friendlies to be played out, however.
| Ireland friendlies 2026 | Date |
| Ireland vs Qatar | 28 May |
| Ireland vs Canada | 6 June |
Ahead of the summer fixtures, head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson confirmed that the Baggies midfielder would be a part of the squad to face both Qatar and Canada.
Of course, the midfielder would have wanted to be at the World Cup, but his stretch without a break continues again, after a taxing period to close out the Championship season.
This is after Molumby also played nearly 80 minutes for Ireland in a weirdly-timed friendly against Grenada on Saturday, meaning his summer break has not yet properly started.
Molumby will play integral role in West Brom growth
The 2025-26 season is not one that West Brom will be looking to remember.
But despite being dragged into a battle at the wrong end of the standings, they performed admirably in the final days under Morrison, with Molumby’s work across multiple midfield roles making a big difference as the Baggies secured safety.

Now, as West Brom look to build under Morrison, they will want their current squad well-rested over the summer, and ready to play their part in what will hopefully be a surge up the standings.
With Molumby set for yet more international action, he will have to push his summer holidays back even further – something that could impact Morrison’s planning over the summer, should multiple players end up returning to training at later dates than others.
