Josh Maja has had a turbulent season with West Bromwich Albion, as most players have, but the Baggies are awaiting a decision after offering the striker a new deal.

The Nigerian has been offered fresh terms by Albion, along with Max O’Leary and several academy stars as preparation begins for this summer’s transfer window.

Maja has struggle to have a real impact this season with injury issues and a lack of goal-scoring form when fit.

However, James Morrison is looking to build his squad around players he feels can help push the Black Country Club up the Championship table next term, with the number nine clearly one of them.

Maja will decide on his West Brom future in the coming days, as statistics from the season may prove that West Brom may actually be better off without him.

Maja has reportedly been offered less money than what he is currently earning on his new deal, and is said to be assessing his options ahead of making his final decision.

The 27-year-old could be holding out for a move to another team where he may earn more money or one that he feels he can have a better chance at being successful with.

That may be hard for Baggies fans to take, especially considering how they had to put up with his poor form all year, as seen in the table above.

Maja underperformed his expected goal rate by 1.51, scoring just four out of his total 31 attempts on goal.

He had a goal return rate of 0.23 per 90 minutes and had a low dribble success of 48.1 per cent. Maja didn’t seem to ever make opportunities for himself to shoot this term, but instead for his teammates, making 1.23 chances per game.

Following the conclusion of the season, Maja’s record stands with West Brom at 19 goals scored in 81 games, as his three-year stay could be coming to an end.

West Brom confirmed that the club is in ongoing negotiations with Karlan Grant, but the situation is very similar to the Maja one.

It’s been suggested that Grant has already been offered a contract, and like Maja, his wages on the deal have been cut compared to what he has been earing at The Hawthorns.

The winger is also said to be assessing his options, as it would be no surprise to see Championship and League One clubs consider making a move for him this summer.
