West Brom will thank Republic of Ireland for making sensible Jayson Molumby call
West Bromwich Albion will be relieved to hear that Ireland are being careful with Jayson Molumby during their international friendlies.
The 26-year-old enjoyed another strong season at The Hawthorns, with 2025-26 being his fifth as a West Brom player.
Playing 40 times in all competitions, 38 of which came in the Championship, the midfielder was a key part to Albion’s eventual second-tier survival.
Contracted with the Baggies until the summer of 2028, Molumby is an integral part of the team, and one that James Morrison will want as fresh as possible for when the 2026-27 term starts.
However, despite West Brom’s season being finished, the Irishman hasn’t been given much of a chance to go on holiday or rest up after a long and testing campaign.

Ireland are managing Jayson Molumby’s international minutes
With domestic football largely now paused, international football is taking the stage this summer.
Ireland may not have qualified for the World Cup, but they have still scheduled a number of friendlies to keep their players and fans busy.
| Ireland’s international friendlies | Date |
| Vs Grenada – Ireland won 5-0 | 16 May |
| Vs Qatar | 28 May |
| Vs Canada | 6 June |
They have already played Grenada on Saturday 16 May, but still have two more friendlies to play against Qatar and Canada respectively, and Molumby has been called up to the Ireland squad for these games.
As far as West Brom are concerned, there will have been some fears over a Molumby burnout for Ireland, especially after he played 74 minutes in their 5-0 win over Grenada.
However, as detailed in a report by the Irish Sun, it’s been agreed that Molumby is only going to play against Qatar in Dublin this Thursday and that’s it, meaning he won’t play against Canada on 6 June.
How did Molumby fare for Ireland against Grenada?
This is a smart decision by Ireland in terms of player welfare, and will be a welcome one as far as West Brom are concerned too.
Indeed, the last thing Albion would want is for Molumby to pick up a serious injury in these friendlies that already puts them at a disadvantage before the 2026-27 season has even started.
As aforementioned, Molumby did play three quarters of Ireland’s game against Grenada on 16 May, in which Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side won 5-0 at the Estadio Enrique Roca de Murcia in Spain.
Molumby wasn’t able to score or provide an assist, but as per FotMob, he still completed 95 per cent of his passes accurately, made seven recoveries, won three ground duels and played six passes into the final third respectively.
