West Brom ‘in the running’ to sign Alfie Devine as £5m purchase awaits player’s decision
West Bromwich Albion are said to be interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur gem Alfie Devine this summer.
The Baggies are in for an important summer under James Morrison, and Shilen Patel will need to spend his money wisely.
According to Express and Star, West Brom are “in the running” to sign Devine from Spurs, but face competition from other Championship clubs.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan with Preston North End, who have activated a £5million buy option in his contract to keep him at Deepdale.
However, West Brom still have a chance to sign Devine, as the player himself is yet to agree to join the Lilywhites permanently.

West Brom must put foot down to sign Alfie Devine
West Brom were linked with Devine over 11 months ago, as some had hoped that Ryan Mason would have used his Tottenham connections to get a deal done.
Instead, the Englishman signed for Paul Heckingbottom’s side, and despite a poor season from Preston, the Spurs youngster had an impressive individual campaign.
| Area of game | Stats |
| Matches | 45 |
| Goals | 8 |
| Assists | 6 |
| Chances created per 90 | 1.47 |
As seen in the table above, Devine racked up 14 goals and assists for Preston and was a mainstay in Heckingbottom’s starting lineup, totalling 3122 minutes for the season.
The midfielder can play as an eight, a six, or a 10, as he averages 1.47 chances created per 90 while also making 1.41 tackles every game.
The Spurs youth graduate scored on his debut for Tottenham during the 2020-21 season, but has only made one other appearance for his parent club since, with a permanent exit likely this summer.

Middlesbrough are also said to be interested, with Wolves and Celtic keeping tabs on the Albion-linked star.
His statistics from this season alone prove that half of West Brom’s transfer budget should go on this man, who is destined to only get better.
Could Devine be the Isaac Price replacement?
Devine has been unlocked when being allowed to play further up the field, though still gets deployed with defensive responsibilities.
With no disrespect, it would be a surprise to see a player of his quality stay at Preston, and so his decision will be awaited by the Baggies.
However, the same can be said about Isaac Price, who has been linked with three Premier League clubs this week.

Price may need to be sold to fund a summer of change under Morrison, and given the Albion boss’s preference to play 4-4-2, this could be key.
Devine may be a central midfield option for the Baggies, as the club could cash in on Price, who was forced out wide towards the end of the season.
