Every game Toby Collyer is expected to miss after West Brom confirm major injury setback
West Bromwich Albion are going to have to do without Toby Collyer for an extended period of time.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined West Brom on a permanent basis from Manchester United this summer.
Having had his loan spell with Albion cut short through injury last season, he will feel as though there's unfinished business at The Hawthorns.
After being an unused substitute for his first three matchdays as a Baggies player again, Collyer has since turned out five times this term.
He's started four of those in the Championship, and was starting to become a key player for James Morrison.
But last Saturday's 3-2 victory was overshadowed somewhat by Collyer having to exit the game just before half-time through injury.
What has Tony Strudwick said about Toby Collyer's injury?
Collyer started the game against Rovers, but couldn't continue after pulling up in the 43rd minute.
Ousmane Diakite replaced him, as everyone connected with West Brom crossed their fingers his problem wasn't a serious one.
Unfortunately, it turns out that Collyer has picked up a nasty issue that is going to sideline him for some key upcoming fixtures.
Speaking via West Brom's official website on Wednesday, Albion's director of medical Tony Strudwick has confirmed the nature and severity of the injury.
"Toby had a scan earlier this week, which we received the results from on Tuesday," he said.
"Unfortunately, it confirmed he has sustained an injury to his hamstring.
"We expect him to be out for five to six weeks, with a potential return to training at the end of November.
"As always, we will fully support Toby in his recovery – and if everything goes to plan he should return to match action in early December."
So, how many matches do West Brom play between now and early December, and what are the standout fixtures Collyer is set to miss?
Collyer will miss some possible promotion six-pointers
Sadly, Collyer is for certain going to miss some crucial early-season promotion tussles over the coming weeks.
Albion play West Ham away on 31 October, followed by games against Southampton (3 November), Millwall on the 7th and Swansea on the 21st.
Six weeks from today (21 October) is 2 December, and if that's when Collyer will be back fit, his target return game could be Portsmouth on the 5th.
If he can make it back for the trip to Fratton Park, that would mean he will've missed seven Championship games.
Morrison will be gutted at this news, especially after his recent formation tweaks that has seen him utilise three of his central midfield crop in the lineup.
Against Blackburn and Wrexham, Morrison started with Collyer, Rabby Nzingoula and Jayson Molumby in the middle of the park.
But with his engine room options now stretched thinner, he may have to revert back to playing with a formation that accommodates two rather than three.
