James Morrison tribute and Felix Horn Myhre lucky - Things you may have missed in West Brom vs Middlesbrough

West Bromwich Albion were beaten 1-0 by Middlesbrough on Saturday.

James Morrison's side were unable to preserve their unbeaten record to start the new Championship season.

Albion reverted back to an unchanged XI from their previous league outing against Burnley on Teesside, with Aune Heggebo returning to the bench.

Here's some things you may have missed from Saturday's game.

James Morrison and Tony McMahon honoured by Middlesbrough

Saturday's game carried slightly more weight than usual for Morrison and Albion coach Tony McMahon.

The two coaches started their playing careers at Middlesbrough, and were in the same youth side together.

McMahon captained Boro's academy team to FA Youth Cup glory over Aston Villa in 2004, in which Morrison was also a part of.

BBC Radio WM reporter Steve Hernon shared an image of Middlesbrough's matchday programme from Saturday's game to his X account.

It shows Morrison lifting that aforementioned FA Youth Cup trophy aloft, with McMahon pictured to his left.

West Brom fans will fume at officials for Boro goal

West Brom will feel very harshly done by with the three goals they conceded on Saturday.

Two of the goals came via a number of rebounds and deflections, but it was the opening one that will cause the most frustration.

If you weren't at the game or watching from home, you may not have seen just how far offside Middlesbrough's Will Lankshear was for Boro's opener.

Morgan Whittaker fired a shot towards goal that crashed off the far post, but at the time of the effort, Lankshear was stood a good couple of yards offside.

Middlesbrough definitely got away with one here, as did a West Brom player with something else entirely in the first half.

How Horn Myhre narrowly escaped serious injury

Felix Horn Myhre has had a mixed start to his West Brom career.

The Norwegian enjoyed some strong first couple of performances, but he was wasteful against Burnley and was only granted 20 minutes against Newcastle.

It's clear that he's going to play a big role in Morrison's side this season though, but that could easily have not been the case on Saturday.

Middlesbrough midfielder Aidan Morris took a slightly heavy touch in midfield, causing him to lunge into a tackle on Myhre.

What saved the Boro midfielder was the fact he did just get to the ball first, but it was with an outstretched leg and a raised boot.

Luckily for Myhre, it was the top of Morris' boot that just grazed the top of his foot, but it was very close to catching him around the shin.

Had Morris caught Myre clean and higher on his leg, that could've been a very, very nasty one for the Norwegian.
