James Morrison names his dream West Brom signing - and it's hilarious

James Morrison has asked an awful lot of Shilen Patel to land his dream West Bromwich Albion signing.

The 40-year-old Baggies boss has been backed significantly in this summer's transfer window.

Albion have made no less than nine new signings in this window, and a 10th is soon to arrive.

It's now being widely reported on Friday afternoon that West Brom have agreed a permanent deal to sign Toby Collyer from Manchester United.

The Baggies now look to be in a strong position to really attack the Championship this season under Morrison.

However, The Hawthorns would no doubt be toasting the return of Premier League football if 'Mozza's' transfer dream came true.

What one-word response did James Morrison give to 'dream' signing question?

One of the many reasons why West Brom fans fell in love with Morrison, even dating back to his playing days, was his character.

Always one to wear his heart on his sleeve and not shy to show his sense of humour when the situation permits it, the Baggies boss is a credit to Albion.

With just days to go in the transfer window, Morrison and his West Brom recruitment team will be scouring the market for last-minute additions.

Some players, however, are simply not for sale at any price, and that's probably the case with a certain international star.

Full Throstle reporter Steve Tudgay posted via his X account on Friday that he'd asked Morrison in what position would his dream signing be if he could have one.

Morrison's response did and didn't answer that question, as he simply replied: "(Erling) Haaland."

The Man City striker would be a lot of manager's answer to that question, and the likes of Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Aune Heggebo wouldn't be offended.

So, for a bit of fun, let's take a look at Haaland's goalscoring record in the Premier League and use that to predict how many he might score for West Brom in the Championship.

How many Premier League goals does Haaland average per 90 minutes?

Joining Man City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, Haaland has scored an unbelievable 162 goals in 200 competitive games for the Cityzens.

A grand total of 112 of those have came in the Premier League from 133 appearances.

Per FotMob, Haaland averaged 0.82 goals per 90 in the Premier League in 2025-26, 0.72 in 2024-25, 0.95 in 2023-24 and 1.17 in 2022-23.

When we add all those up and divide it by four, we get a career average Premier League goals per game average of 0.91.

Let's work off the premise that he'd score at least double the amount of goals he'd score in the Championship than what he has in the Premier League.

On that basis, when we times his 0.91 average by 46 - the total number of Championship games in a season - we get a goals tally of 83.72.

No wonder he's Morrison's dream signing! Unfortunately, seeing Haaland in the Championship is only possible in the realm of Football Manager.
