Three things West Brom fans might have missed in draw vs QPR, including new Heggebo 'deception'

West Bromwich Albion drew 1-1 with Queens Park Rangers at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

James Morrison made five changes from the team that beat Derby County 1-0 last time out, with the likes of Jimmy-Jay Morgan and George Campbell being rested.

A dominant start in the first half from Albion didn't matter, as QPR took the lead with a smash-and-grab goal after neat work from Rumarn Burrell that resulted in an effort coming back off Chris Mepham's face and into his own net.

The Baggies were quick to respond, as Callum Styles rolled his sleeves up and curled in a wonderful effort from the edge of the box to level things up.

Albion pushed hard for a winner in the second 45, but perhaps tired legs got the better of Morrison's men in the end.

All things considered, West Brom have put another point on the board, but there were some other interesting moments at The Hawthorns.

James Morrison captain selection to raise eyebrows

Morrison rested Campbell, who has been a crucial player for the Baggies at the start of the season.

The centre-back was handed the captain's armband earlier this summer following Jed Wallace's departure, but an appointment of a vice-captain was never made clear.

Morrison put Mepham in ahead of Campbell against Julien Stephan's side, and even handed him the armband.

It speaks volumes about the 28-year-old, who is still clearly highly rated, despite being placed on the bench for the majority of Albion's opening games.

His own goal was unavoidable, and as described by Sky Sports commentator Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, "one of the most unfortunate own goals you'll ever see".

Aune Heggebo's new 'deceptive' moment

West Brom fans won't be quick to forget Aune Heggebo's two-match ban for allegedly deceiving an official after scoring with his hand against Norwich City.

It's set a dangerous precedent moving forward, and Baggies fans will be eagle-eyed on EFL decisions throughout the season.

Heggebo had a good chance in the first half, where it appeared as though he smashed a close-range effort off the bar.

Writing at The Hawthorns for the Express and Star, Lewis Cox revealed that the Norwegian actually missed the entire frame of the goal.

He wrote: "That Heggebo effort was wide and off the stanchion to the left and not off the crossbar. [It] Looked deceptive from our angle up here."

Viewers at home may have thought he smashed the ball off the bar, but that wasn't the case.

Thankfully, the FA will leave Heggebo alone in this case.

Conor Townsend's second full West Brom league debut assessed

West Brom brought Conor Townsend back to the club for free this summer after his deal with Ipswich Town expired.

Though he started in the Carabao Cup for the Black Country Club, many have been intrigued to see how he would get on in the Championship.

The 33-year-old came into the fold after Nolan Galves' knee injury and did not look out of place.

Townsend has clearly lost half a yard of pace, but his experience could be vital for Albion in their push for promotion.
