Former West Bromwich Albion star Jonas Olsson has been in the West Midlands making a documentary.

Baggies fans will fondly remember the former defender for his near nine-year stay at The Hawthorns.

The 43-year-old joined Albion in 2008, going on to make 261 appearances in total before leaving to join Swedish side Djurgarden in March of 2017.

Olsson played the majority of his football with the Black Country Club in the Premier League, and played a crucial role in the club's promotion back to the big time in 2010.

The ex-Sweden international retired after his time with Wigan Athletic came to an end in 2019, but will always be welcomed back in West Bromwich.

However, West Brom fans may have been made aware of Olsson's presence in the West Midlands recently, as an update on the TV documentary he's working on drops.

Why Jonas Olsson is back in West Midlands for TV documentary

In a press release from Big Bear Music, further details of why Olsson has been in the West Midlands have been revealed.

The former West Brom star is currently playing an important role in creating a TV documentary about Birmingham's music.

The TV screening will capture important aspects of the city's music and culture, with Olsson playing the role of interviewing key figures.

The former centre-back toured Broad Street and visited Brasshouse pub during his time in the West Midlands, also interviewing Black Sabbath's and Ozzy Osbourne's former manager Jim Simpson at his Big Bear Music office in Quayside Tower.

Swedish football commentator and journalist Frida Nordstrand is playing a key role for the TV crew alongside Olsson and has been speaking about how they found themselves joining Simpson at Henry's Blueshouse on Broad Street.

Nordstrand said: "Our new documentary is about the people and stories behind the players in British football. The title's not decided yet, but it will be something like 'This is England' and will show the real country from mine and Jonas's point of view, as we both lived here.

"We're starting the documentary in Birmingham, as that's where I first met Jonas, and we wanted to show our viewers what the city's really like - the food, culture and music, as well as sport."

Olsson is now a presenter on Sweden's Viaplay TV Channel, and it's clear where he's putting his time after football.

The former West Brom man appeared to have an encounter with a Baggies fan, too.

When can West Brom fans watch Olsson's documentary?

Olsson spent one-and-a-half days in Birmingham after he and Nordstrand were actually convinced by Simpson to delay their departure.

The two Swedes were able to ask the former Black Sabbath manager about the musical history of the second city, including famous bands like Status Quo, Thin Lizzy, Jethro Tull and others.

After meeting with Olsson and Nordstrand on 13 October, Simpson said: "It was great to meet Frida and Jonas.

"I also introduced them to Chris Mason, the manager of the Brasshouse, who's a huge Baggies fan. [He] loved getting his picture taken with Jonas.

"Hopefully this Swedish TV documentary will now tell part of the wider story of Birmingham's music history."

The Swedish TV documentary is due to air in December on Viaplay, which can be watched in the UK via Amazon Prime.
