George Campbell is returning to West Bromwich Albion after starring for the USA against Canada on Wednesday.

The Baggies' centre-back started for Mauricio Pochettino's team in the early hours of 7 October at Allianz Field in Minnesota.

Justin Ellis' 29th-minute goal was enough for the hosts to win the friendly against their neighbours.

Campbell played 74 minutes before being replaced by Adri Mehmeti and is now returning to The Hawthorns.

Club football returns in B71 on 10 October against Birmingham City.

The Albions' captain has a long journey back to the club and there may be question marks around his fitness once he arrives.

George Campbell game in numbers vs Canada

Campbell featured in the USA's first game against Peru at home, starting in the 4-1 victory.

The centre-back later sat on the bench for the wins over Chile and Mexico, but returned in the final game of the international break.

Campbell made five defensive contributions and recorded four clearances against Canada, as per Sofascore.

The 25-year-old contributed in the final third with one key pass and created one big chance.

Jesse Marsch's team didn't really threaten the USA much, but the Albion captain did put in a shift for his country.

Campbell now has a long flight home, and it remains to be seen whether James Morrison will start him at The Hawthorns.

Who could replace George Campbell in West Brom starting lineup?

Campbell has been for West Brom this season alongside Nat Phillips at centre-back.

Morrison has shown immense faith in the former Montreal defender, handing him the captain's armband before the season began.

While the head coach ideally wouldn't want to be without the American ace, fatigue may force his hand into a change.

Chris Mepham has been the Albion's backup option at centre-back in the current campaign.

Last season, the Wales international was part of the Baggies' preferred defensive partnership alongside Phillips before his injury.

Morrison could look to bring the 28-year-old back into West Brom's starting lineup as they look to get back to winning ways after losing to Wolves before the break.
