Why James Morrison's latest 'headache' could hardly be better news for West Brom

James Morrison could hardly have wished for a better start to competitive action for West Bromwich Albion this season.

It might only have been the EFL Cup, and it might only have been League Two opposition in the form of Rotherham United.

But the Baggies turned on the style in a 4-1 win at the New York Stadium, giving them some much-needed momentum for the coming Championship campaign.

What will please the gaffer especially is the impact some of his new additions had on the win against the Millers.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan scored twice on first competitive outing for Albion, while Felix Horn Myhre netted just 10 minutes after coming off the bench.

And it is the latter who Morrison concedes could give him a welcome "headache" that will only be good news for West Brom.

What did James Morrison say about Felix Horn Myhre?

Norway midfielder Horn Myhre had only completed his move to The Hawthorns from Brann four days prior to the Rotherham game.

The Baggies paid a reported £2.5million to sign the 27-year-old, who penned a four-year contract with Albion.

His goal was a fine way to start his career with West Brom, but it is the fact that Horn Myhre can play several different midfield roles, and cover at right-back that has particularly pleased Morrison.

Moreover, so has his attitude to do whatever role asked of him for the team.

In quotes reported by the Express & Star, Morrison said: "It (his versatility) sums the guy up, really.

"We were talking about it and he told me just play me in any of those positions and I will do a job for your team.

"I was like, ‘what a guy’. He will give me a headache going forward.

“Again, it is competition for places. Everyone needs to be at a level.”

Myhre's words are a breath of fresh air for West Brom

The Baggies endured a dreadful 2025/26 campaign and would have surely been doomed for the drop were it not for Morrison's rescue act.

Morrison's remit now he has the full-time job is to ensure that that scenario does not occur again.

To do that, he is going to need a squad of players willing to go above and beyond for the team.

Horn Myhre's willingness to play wherever he is asked is really refreshing to hear, and there are some really good vibes coming out of the West Brom camp right now.

Indeed, this latest "headache" for Morrison could scarcely be better news for Albion, who need everyone singing from the same hymn book this season.
