Brayann Pereira expected to arrive at West Brom training ground imminently as James Morrison shares new striker update

West Bromwich Albion are on the cusp of completing a deal to sign Brayann Pereira.

James Morrison is pushing for West Brom to make a couple more signings before the 11pm deadline.

Despite back-to-back defeats to Newcastle and Middlesbrough, the mood is still very much a positive one in the Albion camp right now.

Much of that has been helped with the largely excellent work the Baggies have been able to do in the market this summer, the latest of those being Toby Collyer.

But with no clean sheets kept in all competitions so far this term, perhaps the arrival of another defender won't do any harm at all.

How close is Brayann Pereira to joining West Brom?

It's set to be a busy final few hours of the transfer window at The Hawthorns.

Speaking from inside West Brom's training ground just before 10am on Tuesday morning, BBC Radio WM reporter Steve Hermon dropped a big transfer update.

"We are expecting Brayann Pereira from NEC Nijmegen, the Dutch side, to walk into the training ground and sign. He may well be there already," he said.

"I did ask James Morrison about whether a striker may be something they want as well, and he didn't say no.

"What he did say is that they're hopeful of getting some business done."

So, what is Pereira's contract situation at Nijmegen and does it suggest Albion could be getting a bargain deal?

Why West Brom may have agreed Pereira deal at right time

It's been reported that West Brom are paying just £1.2million to sign Pereira.

He signed a three-year contract with Nijmegen in March 2024, meaning his current deal is set to expire next summer.

As a result, the Eredivisie outfit have evidently seen this summer as their last realistic chance to get a respectable fee for him.

Pereira is a centre-back by trade but he can also operate as a right-back/right wing-back, offering Morrison plenty of tactical flexibilty.

A proven performer in the Eredivisie, for this sort of fee and at this stage of the window, Albion may well have landed another transfer bargain.
