Chris Mepham and 42-minute struggler: Three West Brom players who will be unhappy at The Hawthorns

The mood around West Bromwich Albion is one of happiness at the moment.

James Morrison's side have started the 2026-27 season in hugely impressive fashion.

The Albion currently sit fourth in the Championship table and have lost just once from their opening seven league games.

Many of their summer recruits are already making big impressions at The Hawthorns too.

However, not every Baggies player will be feeling totally content with their roles in Morrison's squad at the moment.

West Brom News picks out three of them below...

Chris Mepham hasn't gripped West Brom starting role yet

After joining West Brom from Bournemouth in last year's summer window, Chris Mepham hasn't quite carved out the Albion role he'd have hoped.

In his first 25 Championship games for the Baggies last term, the central defender started 21 of them.

However, through the opening seven matches of this season, the Welsh international has made just two Championship starts.

The form of Nat Phillips and George Campbell has played a big part in this, whilst the arrival of Brayann Pereira adds further competition too.

At 28 and in the prime of his career, Mepham may not be content with a backup role in B71 for too much longer.

Barney Stewart may be fearing West Brom transfer mistake

Signed in a seven-figure deal from Falkirk this summer, Barney Stewart will have hopes of becoming West Brom's striker of the future.

But in the present, the 22-year-old Scottish youth international still very much needs to find his place in Morrison's side.

He may have appeared in six Championship games so far this term, but he's only culminated a mere 42 minutes of league action from them.

Indeed, his only Albion start has been in the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United on 26 August.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan has flown out of the blocks at The Hawthorns, whilst Aune Heggebo also seems to be benefitting for playing alongside him.

Stewart will want to be playing regular football soon, but it's not yet clear whether he's going go be afforded that with West Brom.

Tammer Bany must have bleak outlook on West Brom future

West Brom's forgotten man: Tammer Bany has been sparsely seen in an Albion shirt since his winter move last year.

The Jordanian international has suffered from numerous significant injury issues during his time in the West Midlands.

As such, the versatile forward has been limited to just nine career appearances for the Baggies.

Seeing the likes of Morgan, Stewart, Felix Horn Myhre, Rabby Nzingoula and Kareem Tunde sign this summer, Bany is now firmly down the pecking order.

Bany will be under no illusion that his road to West Brom relevance is long, and he may well have his eye on a January exit.
