Every step West Brom can take to afford Cameron Archer transfer amid £5m reveal

West Bromwich Albion are not among the most financially strong clubs as they target Southampton's Cameron Archer.

James Morrison is looking to add another forward to his ranks ahead of the start of the season.

So far, Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan are part of the squad, but neither have much experience in English senior football.

The Englishman has spent most of his career in the first and second tiers of the English football pyramid.

Archer has been a name long-linked with the Baggies this summer and reports seem to have a move heading in the right direction.

West Brom News looks at how a deal could be financially funded or made feasible for the Hawthorns club.

West Brom have money to play with for Cameron Archer deal

There is no point in West Brom just splashing out money for a striker if it does not suit all parties.

West Brom News has covered reports that a deal with West Brom and Southampton for £3million plus £2m in add-ons has been touted.

If that is the case, then for a club like West Brom, that is by no means a nominal amount of money.

Despite Archer's experience, he would be a risk and taking that risk should come with some sort of fallback plan.

West Brom have already made steps to improve their books. According to Capology, Charlie Taylor, Daryl Dike and Jed Wallace were among the top five earners in B71.

All have since left West Brom.

Furthermore, if a move is to be agreed for a £5m package, the Baggies could look to negotiate a staggered payment structure, as well as easy but long-winded add-ons to achieve.

Could West Brom sanction more sales to sign Archer?

There is always the possibility that an exit could open the door for Archer to arrive for that £5m deal.

But The Hawthorns side have already lost plenty of key players from last season, and keeping a consistent group for Morrison will be key.

Among those that could depart is Tammer Bany. The Jordanian forward has never got going in B71 due to injury.

And Bany's injury woes have continued into pre-season. Morrison may ultimately become frustrated with his lack of availability.

Other than that, it is hard to see what other players could depart that would leave West Brom in a similar bill of strength.
