Brayann Pereira has had quite the eventful start to life as a West Bromwich Albion player.

The 23-year-old joined the Baggies on deadline day this summer from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.

A versatile defender who can play anywhere across the backline, he's exclusively been deployed at right-back during his time in B71 so far.

With the signing of Alfie Gilchrist not working out so far, James Morrison knew he needed to strengthen here in the summer window.

But with Nolan Galves now out for the season with a knee injury, there is now huge pressure on Pereira to not only perform, but stay fit.

Recent performances are serving to change many a Baggies fans' perception of the ex-France youth international too.

Brayann Pereira gave West Brom fans early fuel for criticism

First impressions matter, both in life and in football, and the one Pereira made with West Brom supporters wasn't great.

After being an unused substitute against Watford, the defender made his Albion debut away at Derby County on 9 September.

It would, however, only last for 34 minutes, before he was shown a second yellow card followed by a red by referee James Bell.

Off the back of that, a fair section of Baggies supporters were quick to pile the criticism on Pereira.

A notion was cultivated amongst many after his debut that he wasn't ready to meet the demands of Championship football.

But, it's about how you respond to a setback that's important and the real test of character, and Pereira has passed that with flying colours.

West Brom may have struck gold once again after what Brayann Pereira did vs Wrexham

How good was Pereira against Birmingham and Wrexham?

Pereira was able to return to the squad for the Black Country derby against Wolves, but Morrison kept him on the bench at Molineux.

However, he started and played every minute against Birmingham and Wrexham in the last two games, and he's been superb.

Per FotMob, Birmingham saw him complete 92 per cent of his passes, create one chance, take two shots and play eight line-breaking passes.

He also made five recoveries, won five ground duels, won three fouls and completed two successful dribbles.

Meanwhile, Wrexham saw him complete 88 per cent of his passes, create one chance, complete three dribbles and play 11 line-breaking passes.

The right-back also played seven passes into the final third, won seven ground duels, all three of his aerial duels as well as winning two tackles.

Pereira has shrugged off his nightmare debut at Derby in style, and is well on his way to making those who instantly wrote him off eat their words.
