Jimmy-Jay Morgan gamble makes perfect sense, the numbers say it all
West Brom are understood to have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea gem Jimmy-Jay Morgan in what looks a very good piece of business.
The Baggies have reportedly reached an agreement with the Premier League club to bring him to The Hawthorns.
While the final details are yet to be sorted, it looks like he will become James Morrison's first addition of the summer.
The young striker should fit right in to the squad, as it is crying out for a new attacking option.
He spent last season on loan with Peterborough United, and the numbers make the deal a no-brainer for Albion - they are too good to deny.
He could be a difference maker as Albion try to get back into the promotion battle next season, rather than another miserable campaign fighting relegation.
How did West Brom target Jimmy-Jay Morgan perform this season?
Morgan notched 12 goals in League One last season, from an expected goals tally of 9.28, per Fotmob.
That suggests that he is a top-class finisher, as he is scoring more than he is supposed to from the quality of chances that he receives.
He averages 2.05 shots and 3.16 touches in the opposition box per game, which means that he is a handful for defenders.
The Chelsea loanee managed three assists from the 30 chances that he created for Posh.
He is also capable of winning fouls from the opposition, with a tally of 3.08 per game.
Those figures suggest that he would be a quality addition for the Throstles.
How Morgan compares with West Brom's previous options
Morgan compares well with the Baggies' striking options from last season.
Aune Heggebo notched nine strikes, while Josh Maja and Daryl Dike managed four and two league goals.
The Norwegian averaged the same 2.05 shots per game as the potential addition, while Maja had 1.82 and Dike had three.
Heggebo bettered the 20-year-old for assists with four to his three, the other options only managed one each.
However, the Baggies target managed more chances created than all three, as they registered 26, 21 and 10 respectively.
Of course, the level must be taken into account. It would be a step up for Morgan, but he outperformed Morrison's players in most categories, so is definitely worth a gamble.
