Ben Brereton Diaz to West Brom could still be on the cards this transfer window.

The Chilean international is well accustomed to Championship football and would provide James Morrison with an experienced attacker.

The Baggies have already lost Daryl Dike and winger Jed Wallace this summer.

Morrison has been proactive to bring in younger talents such as Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan, but the importance of experience cannot go unnoticed.

As pre-season across the Championship gets underway, Diaz has reported for duty with the Saints.

However, it may not be long until West Brom discover the outcome of their interest.

Why West Brom and Southampton could be set for increased talks

West Brom's interest in Brereton Diaz is not new, however, they could be set to discuss more than just the Chilean.

When it comes to the future of the attacker, that looks to be resolved in the coming weeks.

AS Chile have reported that "these weeks will be key to knowing where he will play in the new season".

And they have also once again reiterated that West Brom are one of three clubs in the race for Diaz.

Both Derby County and Sheffield United, two of Brereton Diaz' former clubs, are also seeking a transfer.

So, a move will certainly not be straight forward by any stretch.

Additionally, West Brom are also contenders for the signing of Southampton's Cameron Archer.

So, if they do approach the Saints, they may very well go in with intentions of discussing both of those attackers.

Aune Heggebo is West Brom's biggest conundrum for next season - here's how James Morrison can get him flying

Do West Brom need another forward?

With Stewart, Aune Heggebo and Morgan at the club, the centre-forward area may already be sufficiently stocked on the surface.

However, the Baggies manager does like to utilise a 4-4-2 formation so having four strikers would be ideal.

Tammer Bany is still at the club, but he has had little impact since his move to the Midlands.

The arrival of Diaz would also be a two-for-one deal as well. The Chilean international is also capable of playing on the wing as he can down the centre.

Overall, that versatility could be the trait that can tip Diaz' stock at The Hawthorns over the edge.
