What Eseosa Sule has said about leaving West Brom as transfer exit imminent
Eseosa Sule's time as a West Bromwich Albion player appears to be almost over.
The 20-year-old joined West Brom's academy ranks in January 2023 from Scottish giants Celtic.
By May of that same year, he'd already penned his first professional contract at The Hawthorns until the summer of 2025.
Glasgow-born, Sule may feel he's got unfinished business in Scottish football, having only made three first-team appearances whilst on loan at Motherwell last season.
Despite starring in Albion's academy ranks, the striker has been limited to just two senior outings in B71, paving the way for questions to arise over his long-term future with the Baggies.
It's this lack of first-team football that has been a driving force for Sule to seek one move away from West Brom already, and history may well repeat itself in that regard this summer.
Why Eseosa Sule may find St Mirren impossible to turn down
Revealed in a report by the Daily Record this week, Sule is on the verge of completing a permanent transfer to Scottish Premiership side St Mirren.
It's claimed that he will pen a three-year contract with the Paisley-based outfit, with the deal understood to include several add-ons.
Speaking via BBC Sport after his loan move to Motherwell was confirmed last summer, Sule made it abundantly clear as to why he was keen on getting away from West Brom for a little while.
"I'm excited for this move," Sule said at the time.
"The chance to get regular first-team minutes was an opportunity I couldn't say no to. This move makes sense."
His wishes didn't come true with Motherwell though, as he failed to make a single league appearance during his loan spell there.
Sule did suffer a serious injury shortly after completing that loan move though, which saw him return to The Hawthorns in August last year.
Should his proposed transfer to St Mirren get done, however, then the young striker - so long as he stays fit - should have his best chance yet to really kickstart his senior career.
Why Sule has instant-starter potential with St Mirren
Sule may have very little experience of senior football under his belt, but that may not harm his chances of carving out a key role straight away with St Mirren.
Buddies boss Craig McLeish isn't blessed with centre-forward depth at present, opening the door for Sule to grasp his long-held desire for regular football.
Of St Mirren's current crop of strikers, Roland Idowu failed to provide a single goal contribution in 26 league games last season, whilst Mikael Mandron netted just four respectively.
Jonah Ayunga suffered an ACL injury in May this year, and thus faces a lenghty spell on the sidelines, and 24-year-old Jake Young scored just three times in 17 competitive games for St Mirren in 2025-26 as well.
Jalmaro Calvin and Chris Mochie are McLeish's only other senior options up top, but the former failed to find the net in any of his six Scottish Premiership games last term, whilst the latter netted four times whilst on loan in the Scottish Championship respectively.
So, Sule would be joining a centre-forward group that is largely comprised of either unproven youngsters like himself, or experienced players that are either injured or perhaps past their best.
This could be an ideal landing spot for him then, whilst also being a good standard of football to go and start a new chapter in.
