What we know and don't know on West Brom's transfer window: Cameron Archer pursuit and contract situations
West Bromwich Albion are busy preparing for the new Championship season.
The Baggies have already made moves in the transfer market as they look to avoid a repeat of a dismal 2025/26 campaign.
Matt Ingram has arrived from Oxford United to provide more goalkeeper competition for Max O'Leary after Josh Griffiths left for Stoke City.
Jimmy Jay-Morgan and Barney Stewart have arrived from Chelsea and Falkirk respectively to provide competition in forward areas.
James Morrison will be keen to do more business, though, to boost Albion's chances of fighting at the other end of the table this time around.
Here are some things we know and don't know about West Brom's transfer window so far.
What we know: West Brom eye attacking reinforcement
One thing we have learned early doors this window is that Morrison wants more attackers in this window.
Jay-Morgan and Stewart may take some time integrating into the first team, and a more established option would be welcome.
Southampton striker Cameron Archer is one player whose name keeps cropping up as it relates to the Baggies.
The former Aston Villa striker only managed four goals in the Championship last season.
But he would be a main player at West Brom, and a move to The Hawthorns could really invigorate the 24-year-old.
Another Southampton forward in the form of Ben Brereton-Diaz is reportedly also on the Baggies' radar.
He spent time on loan with Derby County last season, and the Chile international offers a versatile option up top.
What we know: Domestic talent wanted
There has been a clear focus in this window on targeting domestic talent at West Brom.
New ESC (Elite Significant Contribution Places) rules were introduced in the middle of June, which is likely to lead to more trading between clubs domestically.
The new ESC rules limit transfers of players who are from countries that are not in the top three bands of nations.
Players need to be 23 or under if they are not from a nation in these top three bands, or else they cannot gain a permit to work and play in England.
So, the focus has been on finding domestic talent to blood.
What we don't know: Are Maja and Grant done?
When West Brom announced their retained lists, they announced that talks were ongoing with Josh Maja and Karlan Grant.
However, right now it looks as though Albion are preparing for life without both, especially when you look at the transfer noise so far.
Maja and Grant have both been patchy in terms of their goal return, but they are seasone Championship players.
So, losing both would cause a bit of a headache when reshaping the squad, especially with Daryl Dike having left on a free as well.
What we don't know: Do West Brom want another goalkeeper?
Griffiths' sale was probably the best for all involved, and the Baggies moved quick to replace him with the signing of Ingram.
With O'Leary and Ingram on the books it could be that Albion decide they have enough between the sticks.
But there continue to be murmurings of interest in former Hawthorns favourite Alex Palmer, who could be available from Ipswich Town.
It seems unlikely there will be much done in the goalkeeping department, but we guess it's a case of "watch this space" for now.
