West Bromwich Albion have continued their summer signing spree by bringing in Kayden Lucas after his Newcastle United exit.

The young midfielder was most recently on the books of Premier League side Newcastle but ultimately did not make the grade.

Albion clearly see something in Lucas, though, as he has been handed a one-year deal.

That news was announced by West Brom on Tuesday, with the baggies able to extend the deal by 12 months should they wish.

Bristol-born Lucas spent a couple of years on Newcastle's books but will now ply his trade at The Hawthorns.

But he has work to do first as West Brom's plan for the teenage talent has been outlined.

Kayden Lucas the latest youngster signed by West Brom

Lucas is not the first youngster snapped up by the Baggies so far this summer.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan has also arrived from Chelsea and is already making a serious impression in the first team.

Carter Pinnington, William Rutter and Nathan Dlamini are three other youngsters now at West Brom.

Unlike Morgan, however, Lucas and the others are not going to be immediately part of James Morrison's senior squad.

As stated by West Brom in the announcement, Lucas will first link up with Albion's Premier League 2 side.

If he impresses at that level, he may well be rewarded with that 12-month extension and a possible first-team shot.

What do we know about new West Brom signing Lucas?

Lucas is an 18-year-old midfielder who has yet to make his debut at senior level.

He was born in Bristol and played for Weston Town and Clevedon Town prior to joining Newcastle.

In his first interview with Albion's official channels, he described himself as "a central midfielder who likes to dictate play, drive through lines and play progressive passes".

Lucas believes his style of play is well suited to playing for Albion's U21s, where he is hoping to make an impact on a consistent basis.

The teen certainly seems to have the right attitude to succeed.

Albion fans are more concerned about first-team signings, of course, but Lucas may well be one of those we hear a lot more about down the line.
