Why Eseosa Sule never made the breakthrough at West Brom after exit confirmed
Eseosa Sule was supposed to be the next big thing when he signed for West Brom.
The 20-year-old arrived at The Hawthorns with a lot of hype from Celtic in January 2023.
He signed professional terms just five months later in May, and was handed his debut against Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup in August 2024.
West Brom News previously covered the news that Sule would leave the Baggies to join St Mirren.
Now, the Black Country club have confirmed his departure, on a permanent deal, ending his three-year stint with them.
We take a look at where it all went wrong for the Glasgow-born forward.
How did Eseosa Sule perform for West Brom's youth teams?
Sule was prolific for Albion when it came to the youth ranks.
He notched nine goals and one assist in 25 matches for the Under-18s, and his step up to the Under-21s was even better.
He scored 19 goals and bagged three assists in 54 games for Leigh Downing’s side, which is a very good return.
However, it never translated to first-team berth, as he made just two appearances for the B71 club.
What stopped Sule from breaking through?
He could never break through in the West Midlands due to a combination of circumstances.
The 2025-26 season was his best chance, but unfortunately nothing went his way.
The young attacker started the campaign on loan with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, but injury scuppered his chance of making an impact at Fir Park.
He made just three appearances for the Steelmen, and returned to the Baggies in August, before his deal was officially terminated in January.
When he returned to the Baggies, he had three managers in quick succession, Ryan Mason who was sacked six days into the month, James Morrison as interim then Eric Ramsay, who was appointed on 11 January.
The club were in a relegation dogfight, so he was never going to be thrown in at the deep-end at that time.
He was ultimately given six minutes off the bench in a 0-0 draw against Millwall in April, which was not enough to make an impression on Morrison, who is now the permanent boss.
