Why West Brom surely have the green light to complete Danny Imray transfer
West Bromwich Albion fans would love to see Danny Imray return to The Hawthorns this summer.
The right-sided defender played an influential role in Albion's strong finish to last season, which helped ensure Championship survival.
Imray arrived on loan from Crystal Palace in January, and he and his Baggies team-mates initially struggled during the dismal tenure of Eric Ramsay.
But the arrival of James Morrison brought about in change in fortunes, and Imray flourished in the 4-4-2 system employed by the Baggies boss.
In total, Imray made 16 Championship appearances, and got himself on the scoresheet once during that time.
Now, a new development might just have opened the door for Albion to bring the 22-year-old back to The Hawthorns on a permanent basis.
Fabrizio Romano's 'Here we go' surely opens the door for West Brom
Albion have already done a few bits of business in the summer transfer window as they look to reshape Morrison's squad.
Matt Ingram arrived from Oxford United to offer more goalkeeper options after Josh Griffiths was sold to Stoke City.
Young forwards Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Barney Stewart have also signed on from Chelsea and Falkirk respectively.
West Brom's hopes of striking a deal for Imray may have improved now, too, after Fabrizio Romano delivered a new transfer update at Palace.
The noted Italian journalist reports that the Eagles have reached a deal to sign Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer from Celta Vigo.
The 27-year-old Spaniard does predominantly play as a centre-back, but is also adept at playing right-back and left-back.
With Daniel Munoz the obvious first choice at right-back, Imray's minutes would likely be scarce at Palace.
The arrival of Mingueza would also offer versatile cover in the position, so it stands to reason that Albion could now be emboldened to make their move.
Who else are West Brom tracking this summer?
West Brom are seeking improvements across the board, but predominant on their search appears to be new forwards.
Southampton striker Cameron Archer has been heavily linked with a switch to The Hawthorns this summer.
But his fellow Saints forward Ben Brereton-Diaz, back from a loan spell at Derby County, is also said to be on the Baggies' radar.
A return for Alex Palmer from Ipswich Town had been mooted, but with Max O'Leary and Ingram providing options in goal, that one looks a touch ambitious now.
