Romaine Sawyers raves about ‘Unsung hero’ for display in West Brom win v Hull
Romaine Sawyers has heaped praise on goalkeeper Sam Johnstone for his performance as West Brom beat Hull City 4-2 on Sunday.
Charlie Austin, Ahmed Hegazi, Kamil Grosicki and Grady Diangana were all on the scoresheet for the Baggies as they moved five points clear of third-placed Brentford with their first win at The Hawthorns since February 25.
Johnstone came under fire from some fans during the game but midfielder Sawyers has shared how impressed he was with the ex-Aston Villa shot-stopper.
“Unsung hero in goal for us,” said Sawyers on his personal Twitter account.
Johnstone has been a bit of a scapegoat at times this season with some West Brom fans expecting way too much of the 27-year-old.
When Hull scored their first goal on Sunday, Johnstone received pelters from a section of supporters.
Yes, he could have done better to clear out Hull’s corner before the goal but so could everyone else who was defending the set-piece.
It is harsh to blame Johnstone for conceding goals at corner kicks, simply because he is one of a number of players who need to be defending them better.
The ex-Manchester United ‘keeper went on to make a couple of great saves to help Albion secure the win against Hull and it is great to see Sawyers showing his support for his team-mate.
