West Brom’s best and worst players of 2025-26 – what the statistics say
West Bromwich Albion‘s 2025-26 campaign concluded in a rather bittersweet manner at Hillsborough last weekend.
The Baggies fell to a 2-1 loss away at Sheffield Wednesday to see their unbeaten run, spanning some 10 matches, come to an end.
However, there was a part atmosphere of sorts in the away end as James Morrison had already succeeded in his mission of keeping Albion in the Championship.
Despite West Brom looking devoid of confidence upon being appointed as caretaker, plus having a couple of points docked, Morrison worked wonders and has now landed the job permanently.
Morrison deserves huge praise, but what about when it comes to the players? West Brom News looks at the data behind each individual to pick out the three best and three worst performers.

Nat Phillips was statistically West Brom’s best player this season
Data is playing a bigger and bigger role in football, and while it does not always tell the full story, it gives a good indication of who has impressed and who has flopped.
While Nat Phillips may not necessarily be top of fans’ lists when it comes to the Player of the Year, Sofascore data points to the defender being Albion’s best performer.
| Game | Result | Rating |
| WBA vs Ipswich | 0-0 Draw | 7.2 |
| WBA vs Watford | 3-0 Win | 7.3 |
| Preston vs WBA | 0-2 Win | 7.0 |
| WBA vs Millwall | 0-0 Draw | 7.3 |
| Blackburn vs WBA | 0-0 Draw | 7.9 |
| WBA vs Wrexham | 2-2 Draw | 6.7 |
| Bristol City vs WBA | 0-1 Win | 7.4 |
| WBA vs Hull City | 3-0 Win | 7.8 |
Phillips was an unsung hero for West Brom during their strong end to the campaign, with Morrison clearly getting the best out of him.
As can be seen from the table above, Phillips was Mr. Consistent for Albion during the run-in, only dropping below a rating of seven on one occasion.
Indeed, he was West Brom’s best player in a number of those matches and comes out in first place in terms of the Baggies’ Player of the Season statistically speaking.
Next on the list is Alex Mowatt, who likewise really stood up in the tail end of the campaign with some stellar performances.
Mowatt appeared 39 times for Albion in total in this season’s Championship campaign and registered five direct goal involvements.
In third place is Mikey Johnston, which may come as a surprise but his lack of involvement actually worked in his favour.
Johnston missed the last three months of the season through injury, but he produced some standout displays prior to that to perhaps skew the figures slightly.

For example, the attacker registered a very high rating of 7.7 in the 3-2 loss at Coventry City in November, an even better 8.1 against Preston in October and plenty of others above seven.
Albion’s actual Player of the Year, George Campbell, finished fourth on the list with an average rating of 6.88 for the season.
Daryl Dike tops list of worst West Brom performers
At the opposite end of the list, Daryl Dike – to the surprise of few regular Albion watchers – comes out as the Baggies’ worst player of the season in terms of the stats.
Dike registered an average score of 6.47, although in fairness he did end the season stronger than he started it.
The American scored twice in his final four outings to boost his rating, but it was still not enough to take him above Samuel Iling-Junior in second-bottom.
Iling-Junior endured a torrid time of things on loan from Aston Villa in the first half of the season and was recalled in January before being sent to Pisa.

As for the third-worst Albion player, that is another name many would have perhaps predicted in Josh Maja.
Even when the Baggies’ form picked up, Maja still struggled to register ratings above the seven mark too often.
He ended the season with four goals and one assist, with his future set to remain a hot topic of debate heading into the summer.
