Jimmy-Jay Morgan 'fortunate' to escape punishment after what was spotted in Wolves vs West Brom

Jimmy-Jay Morgan may have been lucky to escape punishment in West Bromwich Albion's derby-day defeat to Wolves on Sunday.

Albion fell to their second defeat of the Championship season at the hands of their Black Country rivals after being edged out 1-0 at the Molineux Stadium.

Max O'Leary kept the Baggies in the game until the break, where James Morrison will have been hoping for a big response in the second 45.

A sloppy mistake at the back saw Nat Phillips gift Fer Lopez the all-important goal for the hosts, as West Brom were unable to find the equaliser.

Albion's forwards didn't have much to feed off during the game, as Aune Heggebo was replaced by Barney Stewart after suffering a gash on his head.

But Morgan's frustrations were perhaps evident for the first time in a West Brom shirt this season.

Morgan has started the season on fire for West Brom, and has already proven he can score in big games.

But the young striker was limited to feeding off scraps against the Old Gold, as frustrations grew throughout the match.

The 20-year-old was perhaps riled up after being fouled on four occasions, and responded by making a total of three fouls himself.

While speaking on WBA TV, Gez Mulholland and Andy Johnson reacted after Morgan made a foul on Mateus Mane, and were both of the opinion that he should have received a yellow card.

Mulholland said: "He's fortunate; it's three times he's committed the same foul."

Johnson replied: "[Laughs] Lopez is saying, 'What's he got to do to get booked, this lad?'"

Morgan has already picked up two yellow cards in eight league games, and could have found himself on three after the loss to Wolves.

This is important because players who receive five yellow cards by the end of a club's 19th match will pick up a one-game suspension.

Jayson Molumby and Phillips were the West Brom men booked by referee Josh Smith.

Phillips now sits on three yellow cards already.

As mentioned, West Brom were poor going forward against Wolves, and didn't do enough to test their rivals' defence.

That was summed up by Albion's overall xG of 0.27, which will most likely have left Morgan frustrated.

The ex-Chelsea youngster has not been involved in a game where the Baggies have created less, and so he will have understandably felt annoyed with himself after the loss to Wolves.

However, it wasn't his fault, and more questions need to be asked of West Brom's creativity from midfield and overall attacking decisions.
