Jimmy-Jay Morgan has made West Brom's ambitions clear with his latest comments.

The former Chelsea academy star signed for the Baggies earlier this summer, in a deal that was an initial £1.3million, that could rise to £4m.

He has scored in both pre-season friendlies so far for The Hawthorns side in Portugal.

Speaking to Express and Star, he said: “I think I could tell straight away it's not a Championship mentality in the building at all.

“I think it's far from that, the standards that the lads and especially the coaches strive for every single day.”

That suggests that Morrison is on the right track to secure a return to the promised land, as he already has new additions raving about the mentality that he has instilled.

However, the confidence that Morgan has may not be shared by those outside of the Throstles' bubble.

Is promotion a realistic ambition for James Morrison's side?

The Baggies finished 21st in the second tier last season, which does not strike much confidence of a top-tier comeback anytime soon.

However, their business so far has been solid, and there is a newfound hope around the place for the new campaign, that things will be better.

That is not reflected in the bookmakers' odds for the division, as they mostly see them finishing in around 13th place.

The best price for them to win the league is 33/1, and for Albion to win promotion is 8/1.

That suggests that there is still work to do, and they are not considered as serious contenders just yet.

That is fair, as they have had a turbulent time in recent years, with Shilen Patel and the Bilkul Football group having to sort out the financial issues left by the previous regime.

If they keep building, there is no reason why they can't be challenging for a promotion berth in the near future, especially if the mentality is as good as Morgan claims it is.
