The unheralded role Ousmane Diakite has been helping James Morrison with in West Brom training

James Morrison is busy knocking his West Bromwich Albion squad into shape ahead of the new Championship campaign.

The Baggies are back in competition action on Saturday when they make the trip to South Yorkshire to face Rotherham United in the EFL Cup.

Then, on 15 August, it is the nitty and gritty of the second tier as Albion make the lengthy journey to Carrow Road to start their league campaign at Norwich City.

Morrison has had to integrate five new players into this squad, with Jimmy-Jay Morgan, Barney Stewart, Conor Townsend, Matt Ingram, and Nolan Galves in the door so far.

Brann midfielder Felix Horn Mhyre is set to make that six imminently, and Albion are still targeting further deals.

And Morrison has been relying on the help of Ousmane Diakite with one of the new arrivals at West Brom this summer.

How has Ousmane Diakite been helping James Morrison?

West Brom wanted to bring Danny Imray back to The Hawthorns before he joined Wrexham.

Instead, the Baggies acted quick to bring French full-back Galves to the club from Rodez AF.

Morrison has been speaking to the Express & Star about integrating Galves into the team, and the amount of information he has had to absort.

And he explained how Diakite has been helping to bridge the language gap to help get messages across to Galves.

""I thought he settled in straight away into training. We give him a lot of information over the days that he was in," Morrison said.

"Oussie (Diakite) has been helping with that! (Speaking French). We gave him loads of information and he took it on board and he'll only get used to it as the more he trains and plays."

Diakite will be targeting playing a big part on the pitch, but it is great to see he has been helping off it too, and no doubt Galves will be grateful for what he has been doing too.

What else do West Brom need in the transfer window?

Galves' arrival certainly help to fix a problem area for the Baggies at right-back, because they were badly lacking in options there.

Myhre adds another option in the centre of midfield, a position where Albion are now looking reasonably well stocked in truth.

Now, you feel, the focus is going to be on adding reinforcements in the final third of the pitch.

The Baggies are lacking some wide players, with Mikey Johnston in need of some help in beinga creative force.

Another striker might be on the cards too, with youngsters Morgan and Stewart complementing the option of Aune Heggebo currently.
