West Brom set for 23-year first as supercomputer predicts outcome of Derby County clash

West Bromwich Albion will be hoping to continue their good start to the season with a win over Derby County on Wednesday.

Albion will travel to Pride Park in search of back-to-back wins in the Championship after a 1-0 victory over Watford last time out.

James Morrison's side currently sit on a perfect two-points-per-game ratio after five games, with 10 points to their tally.

The Rams have yet to win at home this season, with their only victory in all competitions coming in a 2-0 away win over Portsmouth.

John Eustace's side lost 3-0 to West Ham United last time out, and will be hoping for a response against a confident Baggies team.

Opta's supercomputer has predicted the Championship showdown, with West Brom hoping for luck on their side at Pride Park this time.

West Brom to break 23-year first vs Derby

West Brom have only lost once away from home in the league after five games, coming at the hands of a 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough.

But Morrison and his players have surprised people, and will need to pick up a point or three in games like this if they are to be true contenders for the play-offs.

Opta's supercomputer has predicted West Brom as the favourites to win the showdown, with a 39.4 per cent chance of victory.

The hosts wouldn't cause an upset if they were to win, as they are estimated to have a 34 per cent chance of grabbing all the points.

This leaves a 26.6 per cent chance of a draw.

Interestingly, West Brom have not won at Pride Park since August 2003 in the old First Division, when they came back to The Hawthorns with a 1-0 win.

A victory this time round would therefore end a 23-year wait for a win at Derby.

Why West Brom forwards need to be focused vs Derby

West Brom have looked as good a threat as ever so far this season, especially with the likes of Isaac Price and Jimmy-Jay Morgan both in red-hot form.

But the real challenge for them and the rest of Albion's forwards is consistency, and that will be tested against Derby.

The main reason why is that their goalkeeper, Jacob Zetterstrom, leads the way in the Championship with the most saves per match at 4.4.

The good news is that the Rams have conceded five goals across both their home games in the league this season, but that will count for nothing if West Brom's frontline has an off day.
