Did West Brom make a mistake by letting Daryl Dike leave?
West Bromwich Albion let Daryl Dike leave for nothing in the summer.
The Albion had some big decisions to make this summer, particularly in their striker department.
Karlan Grant, Josh Maja and Dike all left the club as free agents, and all three have moved on to new clubs and have already scored.
Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan were both brought to the Baggies as long-term investments, though only the latter has hit the ground running at The Hawthorns.
James Morrison is most likely pleased with his current options, but Aune Heggebo missed big chances for his side once again in the 1-0 loss to Birmingham City on Saturday.
Time has passed, but has West Brom's decision to let Dike go aged well?
Should West Brom have offered Daryl Dike a new contract?
West Brom decided against handing Dike a new contract in the summer, though there were more advanced talks with the likes of Maja and Grant over fresh terms.
The Baggies spent big money to bring the American to The Hawthorns from Orlando City in 2022, but he only managed to make a total of 68 appearances due to injury.
The 26-year-old had two big injuries that halted any progress for the Black Country Club, but he showed signs that he could stay fit in the second half of last term.
Dike grabbed two goals in West Brom's final four games of the season, playing an important part in helping the club survive relegation.
Despite proving his fitness to Morrison, he's now had to move on and rejoined Orlando as a free agent in the summer.
The former USA international has already played 13 times for the MLS side since going back to his homeland, with his injury issues seemingly behind him.
Heggebo is still struggling to find form in a West Brom shirt, and Dike could have offered Morrison something different.
That said, it seems like Albion missed an opportunity with Dike; they could have at least offered him a new deal on a lesser salary.
How Dike still supports West Brom from across the pond
Dike did his best to stay a fan favourite at The Hawthorns despite causing Baggies fans obvious off-field frustrations.
The former Barnsley loan star knows how to find the back of the net, and could yet revive his career after proving he can stay fit after all.
Dike has not forgotten his time at West Brom, and continues to keep an eye on the Baggies from across the pond.
As shared on his Instagram, the forward was watching Albion's game against Blues on his laptop at the weekend.
Morrison praised Dike for his time at the club, and though it did seem a fair move to make, it could also be a decision that comes back to haunt West Brom in the long run.
Of course, he has a long way to go before proving anything.
