Five West Brom players who are under pressure after the transfer window

Some West Bromwich Albion players may have to pay for an ambitious summer transfer window.

James Morrison welcomed in no less than 12 new signings to his Albion squad this summer.

Quite a number of them have already started making big impacts at The Hawthorns too.

It was a window that showed a clear intent to restore the Baggies to the perennial promotion contenders they've previously been.

However, transfer ambition often doesn't come without consequence for those players on the first-team fringes.

As a result, West Brom News picks out five Albion players whose futures are now under threat post-summer transfer window.

Ex-Premier League defender could see West Brom role diminish

First up in this list is Chris Mepham, with the 28-year-old centre-back now in his second season with West Brom.

The former Bournemouth man played 26 times in all competitions for Albion last season, and has so far made four appearances this term.

However, he's only made one Championship start and collected a total of 83 league minutes on the pitch in 2026-27 so far.

With Nat Phillips and George Campbell ahead of him in the pecking order, Brayann Pereira also brings further competition to this area too.

Unless he carves out a role soon, the Welshman may soon find himself out in the B71 cold.

Another defender who is in trouble at West Brom is Alfie Gilchrist, who is currently out on loan with Leyton Orient.

It hasn't worked for the 22-year-old ex-Chelsea right-back with Albion so far, and is set to return at the end of the season.

However, he'll come back to the aforementioned Pereira and Nolan Galves for extra competition, and those two signings may well have sealed his fate.

Now let's take a look at a midfielder who has perhaps never been under more pressure to retain his starting role.

Jayson Molumby needs 2026-27 season of his Albion life

West Brom brought in three central midfielders this summer.

Rabby Nzingoula, Toby Collyer and Felix Horn Myhre all look like being quality additions to Morrison's midfield engine room.

That leaves Albion veteran Jayson Molumby in a tricky situation, as the 27-year-old now has as much starting competition as he's ever had.

He's started three of Albion's first five league games this term, but was benched for the 1-0 win over Watford on Saturday.

Molumby could now be on the path to seeing his consistent starting role slip away from him at The Hawthorns.

Now let's take a look at three forward players who all need to find their places in the team.

Mikey Johnston's injury nightmare could come back to haunt him

First up of the forwards is Tammer Bany, who has only played nine times in all competitions since joining West Brom in last year's winter window.

His most recent injury issue has been a ruptured thigh, which he only just started to recover from at the end of last season.

But he feels firmly down the pecking order now, and like a player who needs a fresh start away from West Brom.

Then there's Mikey Johnston, who like Bany has also been dealing with injury problems.

After making a brief return in the Carabao Cup this season, the 27-year-old has suffered another setback, and hasn't been in a matchday squad since Norwich.

With the likes of Harry Whitwell and Jimmy-Jay Morgan shining up top now, Johnston may find it tough to get back in the side when he does return.
