West Bromwich Albion have been given a boost in their pursuit of Southampton's Cameron Archer.

The Albion have done some applaudable business so far this summer, particularly in midfield and attack.

Shilen Patel has been able to get several players off the books who have been eating away at large salaries, a key reason for some of the financial constraints seen at The Hawthorns.

James Morrison recently added Felix Horn Myhre to his squad, who scored on his debut for the Baggies, the same as Jimmy-Jay Morgan did against Rotherham United on Saturday.

West Brom also have the option of Barney Stewart at their disposal, though depth will be needed in the striker department, with Morrison set to use his 4-4-2 setup this season.

That's where Archer comes in, as West Brom have now been given the green light to move in on the Southampton man.

West Brom may be able to sign Archer for £3million in an up-front fee, as a departure from Southampton has been suggested already this summer.

The Albion may have to pay an additional £2m in add-ons for the former Sheffield United number nine, but this may be the only way Patel can sign off on the potential deal.

Now, the Saints are expecting to sign Manchester City forward Divin Mubama on loan for the season.

According to Darren Witcoop, the move is set to open the doors for Archer to leave.

While Albion's interest in the 24-year-old is documented, Wrexham are the latest Championship side to emerge as possible suitors.

The Black Country Club now have the go-ahead to make a move for the Jamaican international, who is a proven goalscorer at this level.

But Archer may not be the only player that West Brom can steal from St. Mary's Stadium.

Archer would be a shrewd pick-up for Albion, especially at the touted price.

However, his Southampton team-mate, Ben Brereton Diaz, is also on the list of potential signings for the Baggies.

West Brom are said to be one of three English clubs interested in Diaz, with Derby County and Sheffield United both keen to re-sign the winger.

Witcoop has reported that he also expects Diaz to leave along with Archer, and West Brom could have a new home for the pair of them.
