West Brom: Truth behind Jimmy-Jay Morgan's £4m transfer fee as announcement imminent
West Bromwich Albion are set to announce the signing of highly-rated Chelsea youngster Jimmy-Jay Morgan.
The Baggies confirmed the arrival of Falkirk forward Barney Stewart as their first signing of the summer earlier this week.
The Scot won't be the only new forward that Albion welcome to the club, with a deal for Morgan edging closer.
Albion reached an agreement with Chelsea in the low millions for the forward, who spent the entire of last season on loan with Peterborough United.
Some believed that the Englishman would be arriving at The Hawthorns, destined to play a role for the U21s, though that doesn't look to be the case.
The overall package fee agreed with Chelsea for Morgan is in the region of £4million, but that figure has caused some confusion.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan's £4m transfer fee broken down
It's said that this will be the first summer since Shilen Patel and BIKUL's arrival that the Baggies will be able to operate more freely.
This comes after Albion were dealt a huge blow towards the back end of their relegation-threatened Championship campaign last season, where they were found to have breached PSR regulations and were subsequently handed a two-point deduction.
Despite the recent financial worries, Patel and Co. are hopeful that they can spend more money going forward.
West Brom agreed a package deal of £4m for Morgan, but the majority of this deal is based on performance and club-related add-ons.
According to a reputable West Brom source, EyaWeGew on X, Albion paid just over £1m in an up-front fee for the 20-year-old.
Chelsea are also reported to have included a hefty sell-on clause in the deal, which will only rise in price for West Brom based on the overall success of the club and player moving forward.
Why Morgan is set for first-team chance
West Brom would not be spending over £1m on a player just for him to go straight to the academy for development.
Morgan is ready for Championship football, having scored 14 times in all competitions for Peterborough last season.
He offers the ability to play as a striker and in attacking midfield, which will give James Morrison food for thought.
It will, however, ask questions about the confidence in Aune Heggebo and Josh Maja, should the latter agree to sign new terms with the Black Country Club.
