Nolan Galves out for season as West Brom deliver triple injury update
Nolan Galves has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign in a devastating injury blow for West Bromwich Albion.
The summer signing has played just seven times for the Baggies since joining from Ligue 2 side Rodez AF in July.
Galves had been a regular starter prior to dropping to the bench for the 1-0 win away at Derby County on 9 September.
Brayann Pereira's red card saw the 23-year-old called upon from the bench, but he sustained a knee injury after just 15 minutes on the field.
James Morrison said at the times that Galves' injury "doesn't look good", and so that has proved as he has undergone anterior cruciate ligament surgery.
While Galves' layoff is a massive blow for Morrison, who only has Pereira as a natural right-back, there is some better news elsewhere.
What is latest on Callum Styles and Jimmy-Jay Morgan injuries?
West Brom fans have been left sweating following news last week that Callum Styles and Jimmy-Jay Morgan returned early from international duty.
Styles did not play any matches for the Hungary senior side, while Morgan also did not feature for England Under-20s.
However, Albion confirmed via their official website on Thursday morning that both players should be available to face Birmingham City a week on Saturday.
Morgan and Styles suffered minor knocks, which they have been given plenty of time to recover from.
As for Galves, he now faces the cruel reality of an extended period on the sidelines.
What's Nolan Galves' contract situation at West Brom?
Morrison is now seriously stretched at right-back until at least January, when Albion may well consider recalling Alex Williams.
As for Galves, he cost close to £1million for West Brom and was supposed to be a regular starter - as he was at the beginning of the campaign.
The good news is that he will still have three years to run on his contract come the end of this season.
ACL injuries are arguably the most brutal you can sustain in football, but hopefully the Frenchman can return back to his best come this time next year.
